Pencil Play

You may have noticed the little doodle of the leafy man in my broken sketchbook post. Well, i had a go at just drawing in pencil and losing the more solid black pen line... and generally working a bit softer. It's no big diversion, just me trying to keep myself moving. It might lead nowhere, but you 'have to go in to find out' (or some such self-help book fluff). There's no reason not to explore slightly new approaches. I had planned to also work them into more of a 'scene'. I don't really do scenes! I just like characters in a space, like a very minimal play, a stage and one or two characters. Anyhow, it's me making sure I'm not just being lazy! I am aware that maybe all these years of working things out, has got me to this point and now I'm trying to throw all of that out for something inferior!!! Does it matter? it's what being creative is all about, not finding one process and then trading off of that for a whole career (I wouldn't dare mention names!) Anyway, as they say 'No Biggie'.

  1. I really really realllllly love the first one, the color is so fantastic. Second is nice too, but the first one I like best! I like this without lines thing. No idea what the hell you were talking about in the last part of your post though :)

  2. I like the minimalist look, there is so much art with a lot going on these are refreshing to view.

  3. I love the softer look. Looks looser too. I tried colouring my pencil drawings when I was working on channel 4's annual review mag and I liked the look of it, my pencil line was more spontaneous. But I went right back to inking because...I just love inking!

  4. I've not thought about it but you do tend to have a subject in space. No scene. I like it. But as you said it's good to give other things a go. I'm going to be doing some slip trailing this weekend. I thought to myself, Oh do I want to introduce another kind of deco into my line up? But then I said, what the hell it may not take OR it may lead to some wonderful pots. Whatever the case it will be an experience and it will be good for me. Life's too short....

Back to the 'no scene' though, I do love my Dead Ends print. It's sort of a scene I guess. Okay, that's all.
